Eindhoven/Berlin, October 2025 — The European associations INSIDE and EPoSS have released a landmark publication: Artificial Intelligence at the Edge – A Joint European Roadmap for Edge AI. This collaborative roadmap provides a comprehensive vision for strengthening Europe’s position in the rapidly advancing field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the edge of the computing continuum.

The report explores how AI is evolving across cloud, edge, and IoT infrastructures, and outlines the technological and strategic pathways to make Europe a global leader in energy-efficient, secure, and trustworthy Edge AI systems.

It highlights key developments in next-generation hardware architectures — from neuromorphic and photonic processors to RISC-V and spintronic (MultiSpin.AI) innovations — addressing the urgent need for sustainable, low-latency AI close to data sources.

The roadmap also provides clear recommendations for action, calling for stronger European collaboration across the AI value chain — from semiconductor design and manufacturing to software, systems integration, and applications. Supported by the KDT and Chips Joint Undertaking, the document positions Edge AI as a critical enabler of Europe’s digital sovereignty and industrial competitiveness.
