Electronic Components and Systems Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda – ECS SRIA

The Electronic Components and Systems Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (ECS SRIA) is developed annually by more than 300 experts from the ECS community, coordinated by the three industry associations AENEAS, EPoSS and INSIDE. It is an open, living and funding programme agnostic document that reports industry objectives, societal benefits and strategic advantages for Europe over the next 10–15 years. The ECS SRIA describes the major challenges and the necessary R&D&I efforts in micro- and nanoelectronics, smart systems integration, embedded and cyber-physical systems, and System of Systems. Reflecting the most recent technological and strategic trends, the ECS SRIA is jointly developed by the ECS community and released each year on a dedicated website.

Objectives

The ECS SRIA outlines the major challenges and the necessary R&D&I efforts to address them across micro- and nanoelectronics, smart systems integration, embedded and cyber-physical systems, and System of Systems. It is intended to be funding-programme agnostic and serves as a basis for various cooperative programmes across Europe, guiding research and innovation efforts to create value, growth, jobs, and prosperity.

New Release: ECS-SRIA 2026

We are living in a time of major challenges trade and geopolitical tensions, the climate crisis, and an ageing population. Electronic Components and Systems (ECS) offer key tools to address many of these issues. But with many technological options and limited resources, Europe must align its research and public support where it can best use its strengths and address its weaknesses, now and in the future.

Key highlights of the 2026 SRIA include:

New technologies, trends and applications across all topics

A more in-depth look at quantum and AI technologies

Emerging ECS Applications from Agrifood to Extended Reality

Advancements in beyond-CMOS manufacturing, integration, and packaging, including chiplets
